Furry Purry Pages

These pages are dedicated to the Cosmic Cats! They are all strays who came begging, were brought or some scum bag dumped at our door. For the last (fill in the blank because Janice whines when she does), Janice has been neutering and spaying the feral cats in her area as she could afford to. Unfortunately, this year, a bumper crop of kittens has exceeded her finances along with the loss of the contract that was supporting her and the furry purries. Even though she has tried to adopt them out, Animal Control had cute little fur balls in exotic colors and all Janice had were little tabbies and blacks. Everyone thinks they are just plain cats, except Janice. She sees the beauty in each little pattern and face. She is dedicated to caring for each and every one of them but she needs some financial help.

In the next two months, 5 boys, 3 girls and 3 grown females need to be neutered and spayed. The cost for each lady is $32.00 and for each gentleman $22.00. They are: Janice has already paid for the neuturing and spaying.

Bull - He's a loving and protective little brown classic tabby. That's where he gets his name; from the bull's eye on his side. Bull has actually scratched an alien found trying to grab Janice. He knows no fear and sleeps on her head each night. Strange dots are found on his belly. Possibly some sort of a message is being spelled out. His dark striping contrasts beautifully with his light yellow background. He needs to be neutered.

Jackel - He is striped tabby with lovely medium brown stripes on a yellow background. For some reason after having his name changed from Stripey to Jackel, he regressed. Now every night he crawls into bed and begins nursing on the bedspread. He likes to spend his days playing in the garage and his nights in the bed with Janice. He is well trained and always comes when he is called. He needs to be neutered. He is now known as Boopie.

Candy - She is Jackel's identical twin and they are next to impossible to tell apart. When they grow up, he will be the bigger of the two. Candy demands petting on a constant basis. She is a real tom boy and will beat up the grown cats given the opportunity. She spends her days getting into trouble and nights sleeping beside Jackel, her twin. She needs spaying.

Number 4 - Well, she was the fourth kitten in the litter and ended up with that name. Her coloring is strange. Rather than the brown tabby markings she is more black on silver with a little brown. She is the runt of the litter. Very unobtrusive and shy, she can take on her bigger brothers with great success. Her favorite play things are her brother's tails. She needs spaying. She is now knows as Libby.

Little Bit - Don't let the name fool you. He is going to grow up to be a big bit. (It didn't happen. He's still little) He is colored just like Number 4 and takes great delight in fooling Janice into believing he is Number 4 and curling up in the bed with her. However, he has a very skinny tail that he holds straight up like a flag pole. He is very personable. He likes to sneak up and attack the others and then scream bloody murder when they kick him. Naturally, Janice runs and rescues him, but she is getting suspicious this all an act. His mother was a feral cat but Little Bit, recognizing where the food and pets come from, went over to the domestic side immediately. He ain't dumb! He needs neutering.

Midnight - He is solid black without a drop of white and the runt of the litter. He was the last of the litter to accept domestic status, though he still isn't sure about this chin scratching and holding thing. Stroking is OK. Midnight likes to hide and pounce on his hapless friends. He needs neutering.

Shadow - He is all black with a white locket and a straight white bar between his back legs. Shadow was the third kitten to surrender his feral staus. He still doesn't like to be held, but he purrs when picked up and sleeps in bed with Janice. He needs neutering.

Sugar Plum - She is black with a white locket and white V between her back legs. She immediately surrendered her feral status with Little Bit and moved in. She sleeps in bed all night with Janice and then moves into the hall area across from the kitchen where she can spend the day surveying the entire house and deciding who to jump down on. Sugar Pulm likes to carry her knitted ball around even though it still drags the ground. She needs spaying.

Inky - She is the mother of the above four and solid black. Inky first arrived at the shop as a little kitten over two years ago. Janice fed her but could never get near her. She would disappear for weeks at a time and soon it became apparent she lived across the street. When the old man died across the street Inky came to stay. One day she arrived with a huge silver tabby long haired male from down the street and 4 kittens (Mac, Spiderman, Midamese and the Great Exalted and Most Beautiful One). They deposited them in the rocks out front where they would drown in the first rain so Janice fished the kittens out and put them in a huge VariKennel. Poor George ended up sitting by the Kennel with a string tied to the door waiting for Inky to go in. He didn't think any cat would fall for this. However Janice knew he was down wind and cats have very poor eyesight. They really see movement well. So, if he didn't move, they would catch her and Janice wouldn't end up bottle feeding them. It worked. But, she escaped a couple of weeks later and Janice still ended up bottle feeding them. As you can guess, she returned with litter 2 and now she is in a cage waiting for spay money before she gets out again.

Kaddidle - She is also a strange colored yellow and brown tabby descended from Kit-A-Bus. Though everyone knows Kit-A-Bus was the lovingest cat in the known universe, all her kittens were feral (She arrived pregnant). Kaddidle is still totally feral but Janice can trap her and spay her as soon as money is available. She is running free in the building.

Momma Cat - She is dark grey (this is the blue cat fanciers drool over) and white. She is also feral and arrived via Alice. She and Kaddidle have run of the builing and are will be trapped when spaying money is available.

All these cats will end up in cages if money doesn't manifest. So, if you have some spare money please send it to Janice Scott-Reeder, 5631 NW 77 Court, Pompano Beach FL 33073 and tell which cat you would like to help. Unfortunately, your money is only Karmicly deductable. Extra cat toys can always be used. A new cat has shown up outside and is gradually taming down. He will need to be neutered but at the moment he is just too skinny and weak for it. We are calling him Little Mac. He is just a scrungy old brown tabby that needs love and a square meal.

The Not So Needy Furry Purries

Midamese - She has lilac striped points, a round head and huge blue eyes. She looks so innocent but is very guilty. She insists on being petted and if you don't comply, she will grab and bite your hand. She runs into the bedroom and up on the bed the minute Janice comes home because she knows she can trap her there and demand petting. Her latest love is the cone shaped plastic toy that has holes in it with a ball with bell in it and bright pink feathers in the top. Last night she came to bed with a bright pink feather in her mouth.

The Great Exalted and Most Beautiful One. She looks like Midamese except has long hair like a Himalayan. Her life is mostly spent laying on the bed looking beautiful. She loves to be brushed and adored. She likes to lay on Janice and be stroked. Unfortunately, her tongue retracter doesn't work well. The more relaxed she gets, the further the bright pink tongue comes out until late at night it actually pools on the bed. Last night as Janice concluded she had lost her mind due to the stupid things she was doing, she requested the cat that had her brain please return it. One look at the Beautiful One with her tongue hung out confirmed she didn't have the missing or any brain for that matter.

Spiderman - He is so named because of his long legs and body. He is a brown tabby. Spiderman, called Spidey, is a real lover who figured out early in life that you weren't going anywhere fast in the bathroom and hence he attacks you for a love fest on the commode. He can stand up and open doors. He has huge gold eyes and a strange configuration of black spots on his upper lips that make him look like he has a mustache. He uses his long toes like fingers and actually picks food up and eats it out of his paw. Janice thinks he was a monkey in his last life. Martha thinks he was a raccoon. His favorite toy is the blue track ball donut, you probably saw on TV, though he got the cheap generic brand. At one point he stuffed plastic grocery bags in the toy to stop the ball and try to remove it. Is that smart or what??

Bootey - He is a brown tabby on white with, you guessed it - white boots! He is a little stand offish, but spends every night in bed with Janice. He was been getting closer and closer and is "tolerating" a stroke like only an aloof cat can. He is Mamma Cat's son. He has huge gold eyes. He figured out he was never getting that ball out even though he gives it a whack once a week just to be sure. Bootey is an escape artist. Eventually Janice hopes to have the money to build an air lock at the front door to curb his wandering.

King Probe Three - He is Bootey's brother and black and white. Janice called him the Poor Little T'ing since he was the runt and so tiny. Now she can barely pick him up. For the most part he is a loner who likes to spend his days looking out the window and snoozing. Ever since he fell into the big plastic dry food container and reached a state of Nirvana, he has been sleeping on it.

Houdini - He is a HUGE black cat and a total loner. He hates other cats and lives outside. Houdini is Kit-A-Bus's son and brother to Kaddidle and Cream Toe. He was the first out of the box as a kitten and the first out of everything else since then. He can escape from anything! Eventually Janice hopes to have a porch where cats like Houdini can enjoy their life in safety.

Cream Toe - She is cream flecked brown tabby with a big cream colored front toe. She is feral but comes up in the house and screams at Janice, giving her the low down on what everyone did while she was at work. Eventually, Janice hopes to tame her.

Princess Probe Two - This is the original Amazon cat. She is a real lover but where other cats are concerned, she is a real meanie. They have learned to avoid her. She likes to spend her life at the highest point in house, where ever that is and irrigardless of what she has to knock down to get there. She is black and white.

Ring Ding - She arrived many years ago, already spayed and simply walked in the front door and moved in with Janice. Her legs are so short she has trouble jumping on things but she makes up for that short coming with girth. She is black and white with a black tail that has a white ring around the tip (hence her name). Ring Ding takes no gruff of anyone. Her favorite space is the spot on the kitchen counter in front of the coffee maker. Needless to say, she never misses a meal. She once spent a month in the linen closet after her tail was broken. Janice carefully aligned her tail with towels every day so it would heal straight. After a month she was finally able to lift it and now it is almost normal. The Vet didn't have the heart to tell Janice, Ring Ding would probably die from the injury since it was in the spinal column. With tender loving care, she fully recovered. The other cat that someone brought into the Vet's office at the same time with the same injury, died.

Rotten Ralphie - She is a girl, black cat, who arrived shortly after Ring Ding, but unspayed. She is the typical cat. She screams at the front door to go out and five minutes later is in the bathroom window screaming to get back in! She is a real talker who also likes spend time in the garage. She gets up on the shelves in front of washing machine and gives Janice the low down on everything. She talks worse than a Siamese.

Popcorn Worm - Believe it or not, she is 17 years old. She is a Seal Point Siamese left over from when Janice bred championship cats. She runs the house although quite senile. She has never missed a meal and only been sick once in her life. Both Midamese and the Beautiful One consider her to be their guru. Janice has no idea what lessons she is imparting to them but she is sure it means trouble.

Starburst - She is Princess Probe Two's sister and a bright turqouiseshell on white. This little dear never gains a pound and generally keeps to herself except at feeding time when she can yowl with the best of them. We're afraid she has glaucoma and may need some expensive care later on. Right now, she just has a cateract and is doing great.

Missy - She is the third sister and a black cat flecked with cream. Missy really doesn't like people and only tolerates Janice because she controls the can openner. No one said she was dumb! Her big gold eyes watch everything that goes on.

Tea Ball - She is feral red tabby with huge gold eyes the same color as her coat. Although Janice would love to tame her, it has been impossible. When she was due to be spayed, Janice found her sitting in the cage one morning and just quietly shut the door. Since then, she has lived outside, only appearing in the afternoon to sun herself. Eventually she will be trapped and brought inside.

Prescious - He came from a lady who was in dire straights and needed someone to take him. She told Janice how she had rescued the poor little undernurished thing from a mud puddle. He supposedly was an outside cat. Alice called from the shop saying this huge cat was there and trying to eat the dog. That woman must have fed him steroids. Not only that, but Prescious' main exercise is changing beds in the morning. He is a brown tabby.

Phanton - She is the most beautiful blue cream with huge lime green eyes. She never really interacts with the other cats. Since spaying, she has gained weight. Hence, the misspelling of her name. She has a high pitched voice which seems very odd coming from this gigantic cat. Needless to say, she never misses a meal. At night, she finishes the cat food, dog food and we are growing suspicious - maybe the rabbit food. A diet is out of the question.

No Balls - This brown tabby was originally called Mr. Balls due to his exceptional endowments. Then he was neutered. He is the father of the kittens and has proved to be a very attentive and caring dad, taking over when they were weaned. However, he blundered into the cat trap so many times it became a joke. Usually, when you trap a feral cat once, you never get them again. He doesn't want to be touched, but once caught, he just goes completely limp. He has the annoying habit of sneaking into Janice's bedroom to use the sandpan, which is supposed to be for emergency use only. He may be renamed Big Stinky.

Pole Dancer - She is blue tabby on white who arrived at the office already spayed (YEAH!) From the way her front legs are bent and her distrustfulness of people, she had been abused. It was almost a year before anyone could touch her. She would meow and dance around a the bird feeder pole like an exotic dancer but not let you near her. That is how she got her name. Since Janice had to give her her shots and she destroyed half the show room in the process, no one has been able to get near her since.

Twinkle Toes - Someone abandoned this beautiful black and white boy at the shop. They must have thrown him out of the car because his hips still give him trouble. Janice had him neutered and now he weighs a ton. Everytime Tess is walked, Twinkle Toes follows behind and does his business, too. Janice then has to carry him back for which he gives her a big kiss on the mouth. He loves Pole Dancer and lives with her, but he is carrying on an affair with Tess, the poodle.

The Typical Day

People often wonder what I do all day! Usually the cats wake me up at 5:30 in the morning. I am not a morning person. I lure them out of the bedroom with a scoop of dry food and then attempt to get a few more ZZZ's. Jackel & Shadow are not early risers and end up staying in bed with me. Around quarter of seven, their belly alarms go off and they get tossed out for knocking something down. That's when they and the dogs get breakfast. Then I try to get a little nap unless I have something I have to get done. As soon as I sit down to put on makeup, Midamese arrives. She is fascinated with makeup and if I wore blues, I think she would demand to be made up. She and the Beautiful One love jewelry, so I have to be very careful not to leave anything where they can reach it or I will probably never see it again. Around 1:30 PM, they all come back to life and expect their lunch before I leave for the office. Usually I get home around 6 PM. First thing, I have to pet Midamese, because she has followed me into the bedroom and is trying to catch my hands or watch. She really wants that watch! By the time I change clothes, Spider and Bull have arrived for their pets.

Then it's clean up time! The dog papers must be picked up. My little dogs are mostly blind and unable to go outside and so old they just can't wait any more. Every sand pan must be emptied, sometimes twice. There is something about a clean pan that activates some of these cats. They MUST use it! I don't begrudge them it, but by the time I get to the Booda Box my back is usually ready for traction. A Booda Box is the cadillac of kitty pans and their favorite sand pan. It has an over lapping hood that they have to go under and up into, giving them complete privacy. It is the most popular pan and the heaviest. I always have an attentive audience for the sand pan marathon. Then the floors must be mopped.

I have originated the 2 mop system. If you live in a humid area like I do, waiting for a floor to dry is like watching a fishing tournament. Thus, I keep one dry mop to go over the wet floor to hasten the process.

After the floors are done, then dinner is served to the animals. I get to take a shower while they eat. Then I get dinner, which Spider wants to share with me. He has learned which drawer in the refrigerater has the lunch meat and that I bag it. The second that drawer opens, Spider is in the drawer trying to take out the bags. He always gets a treat and now Bull is demanding he get a treat too. I'm running out of lunch meat faster and faster.

After dinner we settle in for some reading. I have more cats than sections in the newspaper, so they have to share. Has anyone ever read anything, who has a cat??? Then comes the TV. Little Bit and Shadow sit on the end of the bed and watch TV, absolutely fascinated. Bull tried to catch the butterflies on the Nature Channel. Midamese went after the birds. As the night wears on, more and more cats settle in until I start wondering where I am going to sleep. We finally manage some sort of a compromise, with Bull on the pillow with me and Jackel holding on to me for dear life. The rest just settle where they find space until around 5 AM!

In Memory

Kit-A-Bus - She was a real love. She died peacefully in her sleep from no apparent cause. We do know that 2 of her kittens died shortly after birth and she may have had a heart condition. We miss her.

Mac - He was the head Tabby. One night he escaped and never returned. Since he had done the same thing the week before and returned wearing perfume, we think he was stolen. Mac was gorgeous. A neighborhood kid has hinted that he being held by someone.

We Can't Purr but We Have Fur!

Bear - He is a black Pomeranian, 12 years old and blind in one eye. Bear has always had an abundance of cutes. He has arthritis and doesn't get around well, but he lives life to the fullest and still scraps over food.

Junior - He is a cream miniature poodle, almost blind and 12 years old. He is quite the little guard dog though he's not sure what he's guarding any more. He loves to push the cat's big plastic belled ball around the house.

Sweetkins - He is Junior's brother in black and completely blind. He is sweet, but very sneaky. He can finish off the cat's food before you notice he is behind you.

Tess - She is a 7 year old white standard poodle, who guards the office. Tess is a real love and madly in love with Twinkle Toes, the cat. Enough said about that. She came from a family who had to move away and couldn't take her.

In Memory

Oliver - He was our Australian Terrier and quite the character. Oliver arrived second hand over year ago after both his owners died and his second owner just couldn't get along with him. He was stubborn, funny and the greatest little dog. He died July 12th and is sorely missed by all who were touched by him.

If you would like to help......

Janice really needs some monetary help with these little babies. Your checks are only Karmicly deductable but they sure do help. You can send them to Janice Scott-Reeder, 5631 NW 77 Court, Pompano Beach, FL 33073.

Cat toys are alway welcome. $2.00 buys 25 lbs. of kitty litter and Janice does all the emptying. The cats eat Whiskas, and coupons also help. Neutering and spaying must be done in August and right now, there is no money to help these babies out.
